MACRO
- Saudi Arabia's point-of-sale (POS) spending has remained consistently strong, holding firm above the USD3 bn mark for the 12th consecutive week.
According to data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), POS transactions totaled USD3.49 bn in the week ending September 13 . While this represents a weekly decline, the sustained high spending level underscores robust consumer confidence and a continued shift toward digital payments in the kingdom. Key spending categories included food and beverages, restaurants, and transportation. This trend is a positive sign for the Saudi economy's ongoing diversification and its move toward a more cashless society as outlined in Vision 2030 . (Arab News)
- Jordan's customs revenues, managed by the Jordan Customs Department (JCD), totaled approximately JD 1.788 bn (around USD2.5 bn) in 2024 .
This marks a modest 1% increase from the previous year, according to the JCD's annual report. The report also highlighted that a significant portion of imports, about 89.3%, were exempt from customs duties. The revenues were primarily collected from sales tax and the unified customs tariff. This performance underscores the kingdom's reliance on customs duties as a source of government revenue and its continued efforts to modernize its customs operations to facilitate trade. (Zawya)
- Qatar's real estate and rental activities sector has become a significant contributor to the nation's economy, accounting for a 7.4% share of its GDP.
This figure, based on data from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority, represents a 7% growth compared to the same period last year. The sector's strong performance, with its value-added reaching QR13.44 bn in the first quarter of this year, is a clear testament to the success of Qatar's national strategy to diversify its economy away from a reliance on hydrocarbons and attract new investments. (Zawya)
- Dubai's inflation rate slowed to 2.43% in August, down from 2.88% in July, according to data from the Government of Dubai.
This deceleration was primarily influenced by a decline in food and beverage prices, which saw a year-on-year drop of 0.37%. While the cost of housing and utilities continued to rise, a notable decrease in transport costs and the softening of prices for certain goods helped to ease overall inflationary pressure. The slowing inflation rate is a positive sign for consumers and is in line with the Central Bank of the UAE's forecast for price stability. (Enterprise)
