MACRO
- Qatar's QNB projects global trade to grow by over 4%.
Global trade volumes surged 16% in 2025—well above the 4% long-term average and outpacing GDP growth—despite the US implementing the most aggressive tariff increases in decades, including sweeping "Liberation Day" measures in April, according to QNB's economic commentary. Rather than collapsing, trade accelerated as US importers aggressively pulled forward shipments to lock in lower duty rates ahead of implementation, with goods imports surging in late 2024 and early 2025, particularly in tariff-exposed categories like machinery, electronics, and intermediate manufacturing inputs. This front-loading cycle—larger and more geographically diversified than the 2018-19 US-China trade war pattern—boosted measured global trade volumes, ironically masking the longer-term drag that higher tariffs may yet impose on economic integration. - UAE accounts for 30% of Ecuador’s trade with Arab, African countries.

The agreement creates a trade and investment corridor linking the UAE with Latin American markets while leveraging the Emirates' position as a global trade hub to expand Ecuadorian companies into Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, with cooperation spanning renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, technology, AI, manufacturing, mining, education, and tourism. Bankers and investors warned that the conflict could disrupt planned capital market fundraisings and cross-border mergers and acquisitions with travel halted and discussions suspended. Fred Hu, chairman of China's Primavera Capital Group, said the Iran war could disrupt two-way capital flows and investment talks between the Middle East and China in the short term.
