It is noteworthy that the IMF had expected, in the report of the second and final review of the Egyptian economic reform program supported by the credit standby arrangement, which was revealed in late July, that the growth rate of the Egyptian economy would reach 2.8% in the fiscal year 2020/2021 and that it would rebound strongly to 5.2% in the year fiscal 2021/2022. Moreover, the World Bank had recently expected a rise in the growth rate of the Egyptian economy in the current fiscal year 2021/2022 to 5%, compared to 3.3% last fiscal year. compared to 4.5% in the last fiscal year 2020/2021, adding that it had recorded about 5.7% in the 2019/2020 fiscal year. The IMF data, issued yesterday, showed that the current account deficit decreased to about 3.7% in the current fiscal year 2021/2022, compared to 3.9% last fiscal year. The IMF also estimated a drop in unemployment rates to 9.2% in the current fiscal year, compared to 9.3% in the last fiscal year. (Source: IMF)

  2. Moreover, the hospitality sector in Cairo has witnessed gradual recovery during the third quarter (Q3) of 2021, however, the sector’s performance has not resumed its pre-COVID levels yet.
Hotels’ occupancy rates recorded 41% in August 2021, compared to 29% in the prior-year period, the report noted. This was driven by the taken measures by the Egyptian government in easing flight restrictions and allowing hotels to raise operational capacity to 70% from 50%, as well as higher vaccination rates in Q3-2021.
