MACRO

  1. Saudi non-oil private sector sees strong growth as PMI climbs over 60 . Saudi Arabia’s non-oil private sector posted one of its strongest performances since 2014 in October, driven by robust demand and hiring. However, input cost pressures accelerated, prompting the sharpest output price hikes in over two years. The Riyad Bank PMI rose from 57.8 in September to 60.2, signaling the second-fastest upturn since 2014 . (Zawya)

  2. Gulf States discuss details of unified tourist visa ahead of 2026 launch. Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are discussing the details of a unified tourist visa, including its duration, to allow visitors to explore as many countries in the region as possible, with the system expected to be ready for launch in 2026, according to Fatima Al Sairafi, Bahrain’s Minister of Tourism. She stated that Bahrain adopted in its 2022 national tourism plan the GCC strategy for tourism integration and joint promotion of the region as a single destination. Al Sairafi noted that this strategy has already led to a significant increase in visitor numbers to Bahrain, contributing to a 15% year-on-year rise in tourism revenues. (Bloomberg Asharq)

  3. Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria set to update power link agreement; Cyprus offer under review. Lebanese Energy Minister Walid Fayyad revealed that Lebanon is working to update the electricity interconnection agreement with Jordan and Syria. A trilateral meeting between the three countries’ energy ministers is scheduled for November 20, marking the first of its kind in years. In an interview with Asharq on the sidelines of ADIPEC, held in Abu Dhabi, Fayyad said that the upcoming meeting in Amman “will assess the damage to the power grid, and we will put previous agreements on the table to rebuild them from the ground up.” He also announced plans to visit Cyprus next week to review its proposal regarding a potential electricity link. These developments come as Lebanon continues to face a chronic electricity crisis, which has worsened amid Israeli attacks since 2023 . (Bloomberg Asharq)

  4. Digital payments advance in Morocco, but “Cash” still dominates. Morocco is witnessing an expansion in digital payments; however, this progress continues to face a “acceptance gap,” given the limited number of merchants adopting digital payment methods and solutions — leaving cash as the most prevalent means of daily transactions. Cash accounts for around 63% of total transactions in the country, according to a recent study by Visa Morocco, reflecting the continued dominance of paper-based cash payments. Data from Bank Al-Maghrib also highlights this trend, estimating that the volume of cash in circulation reached MAD 467 bn (USD 51 bn) at the end of August — an annual increase of 9.6%. This amount represents about 30% of Morocco’s GDP, placing the country among the world’s highest in reliance on cash. (Bloomberg Asharq)

The agreement would deepen XRG’s presence in the Caspian region where it already holds a 30% stake in the Absheron gas field alongside the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (Socar) and a 38% interest in Turkmenistan’s offshore Block I concession. Socar, in turn, owns a 3% stake in Abu Dhabi’s SARB and Umm Lulu concessions, acquired from Adnoc in 2024 . (Wam)
