“Good morning, people of Saudi Arabia! Welcome to Zilla Capital’s Kingdom Pulse.

  1. SABIC Agri-Nutrients takes FID on its seventh project and awards a USD 3.47 bn EPC contract to Samsung E&A. The complex comprises an ammonia plant of 1.2 mn metric tons a year, two urea plants totalling 2.6 mn metric tons, and a carbon capture unit at Jubail. Construction starts in 4Q 2026, commissioning in 3Q 2030 and commercial production in 4Q 2030, lifting urea capacity from 4.8 mn to 7.4 mn metric tons a year, a 54% increase. Financing will be assessed across loans and internal cash flows. (Argaam, Tadawul)
  2. Cabinet approves a war-risk insurance pool for cargo and ships, with Saudi Re appointed to lead it. The Council of Ministers signed off on the pool and the Insurance Authority reappointed Saudi Re to lead it, sending the stock up 9.97%. The mechanism reduces dependence on international underwriters that have been repricing or withdrawing cover on regional transits. (Argaam)
  3. Business Confidence Index rises to 56.7 points in August. The index gained 0.2 points from 56.5 in July. Industry led at 55.8 points, up 1.04 points on stronger confidence in performance and employment prospects, and services rose 0.9 points to 56.1 on optimism over performance and fixed investment spending. Construction slipped to 57.3 from 57.7 on weaker confidence in current and expected input costs. (Saudi Gazette)
  4. Industrial production index falls 8.1% in July. The index declined 8.1% year on year, a reading that sits alongside second-quarter data showing non-oil and government activities each growing 0.9%. The pairing points to a non-oil base that is holding without offsetting the contraction on the hydrocarbon side. (Argaam, GASTAT)
  1. Edarat approves a SAR 150 mn plan to expand EdaratCloud Stack. The Nomu-listed firm's board signed off on the expansion of its cloud infrastructure platform days after securing a SAR 197.8 mn contract from MIS. Contract revenue and capacity investment landing in the same week points to demand-led expansion rather than speculative build. (Argaam)
  2. Qassim Cement acquires 100% of Amix Ready Mix for SAR 65 mn. The cement producer took full ownership of the ready-mix concrete business, a downstream move that captures margin closer to the construction customer at a point when the construction sector is reporting rising input-cost pressure. (Argaam)
  3. Tadawul suspends National Gypsum until it discloses H1 2026 results. The exchange halted trading in the shares after the company missed its extended deadline for publishing interim financial results for the six months ended 30 June. Repeated reporting delays at smaller industrials are worth tracking as a stress signal in the segment. (Argaam)

FT investigation revisits the Ritz-Carlton purge and its nine-year aftermath.

The Financial Times published an account from Mira Lozi, wife of Rami Naimi and daughter-in-law of former oil minister Ali al-Naimi, describing her husband's detention during the November 2017 anti-corruption campaign and the years since. By her account he was stopped at Dubai airport, flown to Riyadh, held for 85 days, and signed a settlement initially set at SAR 5 bn and later reduced to SAR 1 bn; she says he described being tortured in detention. He was subsequently placed under an electronic tag and travel ban, detained again in September 2022, convicted in November 2025 and sentenced to six years, with an appeal rejected in May 2026. The FT said eight Saudi government agencies did not respond to detailed requests for comment, and Saudi authorities have previously called torture allegations relating to the purge untrue. The attorney-general put total settlements from the campaign at more than SAR 400 bn.

Saudi Arabia shuts the East-West pipeline after Thursday's attacks, with Riyadh attributing the drones to Iraq.

The Energy Ministry halted operations along the 1,200km line as a precautionary measure following strikes in the Riyadh and Madinah regions that caused a number of injuries, saying emergency and specialised technical teams responded immediately to secure the pipeline and assess its safety, without indicating how long restoration would take. The Foreign Ministry said the drones came from Iraq and that the kingdom would not retaliate at this stage, following a request from the Iraqi prime minister. Iran-backed militias in Iraq have previously fired on the kingdom during the war. The pipeline carries crude from the eastern oilfields to Yanbu on the Red Sea and has been the primary means of sustaining exports despite Iranian restrictions on Hormuz traffic. It was attacked in April and restored quickly by Aramco. Brent settled at USD 104.56 on Friday, up more than 8% over the week, and US diesel hit a record USD 6 a gallon.
