Egyptian Pound seen as overvalued; market anticipates further devaluation. The Institute of International Finance asserts that the Egyptian Pound is overvalued by around 10%, aligning with the International Monetary Fund’s push for exchange liberalization. The institute’s recent report suggests that market imbalances will persist if the exchange rate stabilization policy continues. A flexible exchange rate can help handle external shocks and allows monetary authorities to prioritize price stability. The parallel market’s exchange rate exceeds the official rate by up to 30%, and markets anticipate a near-term devaluation of the Egyptian currency, especially after significant devaluations in 2022 and 2023.
